List for blood pressure medications to be recalled expands further

More names have joined the queue for the blood pressure medications that are currently being recalled for housing cancer-causing ingredients in trace amounts. One among this line is the medication that is being used for treatment of hypertension.

This recall started last year during the summer when drug companies located 100s of the heart and blood pressure medications housing small amount of impurities that cause cancer. The U.S. based FDA weighed in for all these recalls of ARB drugs, and Multiple Generic Angiotensin II on Friday. They stated that these impurities might be the resulting factor of certain chemical reactions occurring during the drug-manufacturing proves. The regulatory board also stated that it could stem from the reuse of manufacturing materials like the solvents.

Scott Gottileb, the FDA Commissioner stated in his statement that over a term of few months, FDA has organized major investigation while addressing the existence of any impurities in the medications. The latest entry to these cases adds two firms for pharmaceutical manufacturing that had previous recalls as well.

Torrent Pharmaceuticals and Aurobindo Pharmaceuticals expand its line of medications to be recalled. While Torrent Pharma recalls 114 more lots of the Losartan Potassium & losartan potassium/hydrochlorothiazide on Friday, Aurobindo Pharma added 38 lots to the list of medications to be recalled which includes the Amlodipine and Valsartan tablets.
